Polyurethane resin technology
Lamination applications - snack food bags, cheese and meat wrappers, frozen zipper pouches, laminated candy wrappers, condiment and liquid cosmetic packages - have placed increasing demands on resin suppliers. In today's marketplace, lamination ink resins need increased solubility in a variety of solvents and alcohols; excellent bond strengths, good pigment dispersion capability, very low retained solvent properties, fast resolubility on the press and nitrocellulose compatibility. New resins concepts need to be aliphatic rather than aromatic and tin-free due to environmental concerns.
Cognis’ new polyurethane resins, Versamid PUR 1010 and Versamid PUR 1020 yield high solids inks with excellent adhesion to multiple film substrates. In addition, the flexible polyurethane requires no cosolvents and is completely alcohol-soluble. This film-forming resin contributes to extremely low retained solvents in final package. The low solution viscosity allows high pigment loads, easy press clean-up and good printability.
